A militant suspected of organizing a series of major terrorist acts was killed in Chechnya October 2, a spokesman for the Chechen police said Monday.
The spokesman said Supyan Arsanukayev opened fire when police tried to detain him. The police returned fire, killing the suspect.
According to the Chechen Interior Ministry, Arsanukayev was suspected of staging a terrorist attack in Znamenskoye, Chechnya in July 2005, killing 14 and injuring 34.
Arsanukayev was also suspected of organizing other terrorist attacks, including suicide bombings, kidnappings and hostage situations. He was on the police wanted list for murder, terrorism and participation in illegal armed units.
The Federal Security Service said the suspect’s accomplices, suspected of hiding him from police, were detained.
