(MOS NEWS) Traces of the international terrorist organization Hizb-Ut-Tahrir have been detected in Russia, the RIA-Novosti news agency quoted Russian Interior Minister Rashid Nurgaliyev as saying on Tuesday.
Nurgaliyev told reporters that two people from the Central Asia region had been detained some time ago and weapons, hand grenades and a large quantity of explosives had been found in their possession. The detainees were implicated in the activities of the international terrorist network Hizb-Ut-Tahrir.
This means that the terrorist organization, which was banned by a ruling of the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation, still has a presence in Russia, the minister said.
Nurgaliyev also expressed his hope that the joint efforts of law enforcers in the CIS countries would allow effective measures to uncover and prevent terrorist organizations’ activities on the territory of the commonwealth.
The minister added that some Hizb-Ut-Tahrir members had been arrested in the Central Federal District and the Volga Federal District of the Russian Federation.
Sources in Russia’s law enforcement agencies said that the last two suspected terrorists had been residing in Russia illegally and worked at private construction sites in the Moscow region.
