DULLES, Va.– ORBIMAGE Inc. (“ORBIMAGE”) announced today that it has been awarded a contract to supply the National Geospatial- Intelligence Agency (NGA) with high-resolution commercial satellite imagery and value-added products from its new OrbView-3 satellite.
NGA’s CLEARVIEW award provides ORBIMAGE with a guaranteed minimum value of $27.5 million over two years, of which approximately $10.5 million and $12 million represent minimum commitments to purchase imagery in year one and two, respectively. ORBIMAGE will collect, process, archive and distribute high-resolution panchromatic and multispectral imagery and products supporting NGA’s mission to provide up-to-date geospatial intelligence to the U.S. Department of Defense and the intelligence community.
“The award of this contract to ORBIMAGE expands the CLEARVIEW Program’s industrial base and recognizes ORBIMAGE’s ability to supply affordable, high quality imagery products and value-added services to help NGA meet the growing demand for geospatial intelligence,” said Lt. Gen. (ret) James Clapper, Director of the NGA. “This award also illustrates our continuing commitment to increase our utilization of commercial imagery for a wide array of geospatial applications.”
“This is another significant milestone for ORBIMAGE,” said Matthew O’Connell, ORBIMAGE’s Chief Executive Officer. “ORBIMAGE has supplied imagery production services to NGA for years; with OrbView-3 now operational, we are glad that we can supply NGA with end-to-end geospatial information and services including both imagery and production. NGA has done a great job of implementing the U.S. Government’s policy of supporting the U.S. commercial remote sensing industry. As a result, the U.S. Government is getting imagery that is both top quality and affordable.”
“ORBIMAGE has a long track record in providing timely and accurate production services to NGA,” said Gary Adkins, ORBIMAGE’s Vice President for Federal and National Security Programs. “We are eager to expand our support to NGA’s CLEARVIEW program with imagery from our OrbView-3 satellite.”
