ERUSALEM – Lebanese guerrillas fired a barrage of rockets into northern
Israel early Sunday, wounding an Israeli soldier at a military base, the army said.
Several rockets landed inside Israel, military officials said. The soldier’s injuries were described as light to moderate.
The army said it held Lebanon responsible for the attack but there was no immediate reaction. Israel has responded to similar attacks in the past with air strikes on targets inside Lebanon.
There was no immediate claim of responsibility. The guerrilla group Hezbollah possesses thousands of Katyushas and periodically fires the rockets at Israeli targets, though Palestinian guerrilla groups have also carried out such attacks in the past.
