Mughniyeh hit and the demise of Israel
By Hassan Hanizadeh
The tragic assassination of Imad Fayez Mughniyeh, one of the influential figures of Hezbollah, is part of the U.S.-Israeli scenario to create managed chaos in Lebanon.
The assassination was carried out shortly after Arab League Secretary General Amr Moussa’s latest efforts to settle the differences between the March 14 and March 8 movements failed, which led to the fourteenth postponement of the Lebanese parliament’s vote to select a new president.
Moussa failed because of the pro-government March 14 group’s insistence that the parliament elect a president connected to their movement.
Over the past three months, the March 8 group, led by Michel Aoun of the Free Patriotic Movement in association with Hezbollah and Amal, has called for the formation of a national unity government despite their rivals’ threats and aggressive actions.
However, the totalitarian March 14 group brought all the efforts to resolve the problem to a dead end.
At the same time, the recent Bloody Sunday events left eight pro-Hezbollah forces dead in southern Beirut on January 27, and if it were not for the self-restraint of Hezbollah leaders, Lebanon would have been plunged into a new civil war.
The illogical and thoughtless remarks of the March 14 group leaders are in line with the U.S. plan to create managed chaos in the country to weaken Hezbollah and undermine Tehran-Beirut relations.
The U.S. government, in coordination with the CIA and Mossad, has been pursuing this policy more vigorously since the Zionist regime’s defeat in the 33-day war against Hezbollah.
After the Zionist regimes’ humiliating defeat in the war against the Lebanese people, the serial killings started in Lebanon, intensifying the national crisis.
However, Hezbollah leaders’ vigilance prevented the implementation of the part of the scenario which sought to foment discord between the Lebanese army and Hezbollah.
The recent attacks against the opponents of Prime Minister Fouad Siniora in Beirut were a part of the March 14 group’s provocative actions, but they did not faze the supporters of the March 8 group.
Thus, the assassinations of some influential Hezbollah figures, which were carried out in coordination with some local forces that pursue the policies of the U.S. and the Zionist regime, were put on the agenda.
At the moment, Mossad and the CIA, some Arab intelligence agencies, and some local parties linked to the Western powers have formed an operational triangle to foment chaos in Lebanon.
The assassination of Mughniyeh, who was one of Hezbollah’s leading lights in the areas of intelligence and military operations, was part of this evil triangle’s clandestine plot to disarm Hezbollah and marginalize the popular movement.
Although Mughniyeh was martyred, Hezbollah Secretary General Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah’s recent remarks, in which he said the demise of the Zionist regime is imminent, brought hope to the world’s Muslims.
Nasrallah asserted that the Mughniyeh assassination, which was carried out outside Lebanese territory, makes facilities connected to Israel anywhere in the world legitimate targets for Hezbollah. This means that the world will no longer be safe for the Zionists.
By assassinating Mughniyeh in Damascus, the Zionist regime blatantly violated international law and the sovereignty of Syria.
Therefore, Israel should not protest any operation carried out by Hezbollah against the Zionists since, through the Mughniyeh assassination, Israel has institutionalized state-sponsored terrorism throughout the world.
Another issue that went mostly unnoticed by political analysts was the timing and location of the assassination.
In fact, the objectives were to murder one of the most prominent Hezbollah leaders and to make it appear that Damascus is not secure enough to host the upcoming Arab League summit.
The evacuation of U.S. nationals from Lebanon also indicates that the United States is seeking to protect its citizens from Hezbollah retaliation ahead of implementing its plan for managed chaos.
The provocative acts of Mossad and the CIA and the suspicious presence of U.S. military forces in the region have created a difficult situation in Lebanon. If rival movements do not reach a consensus on resolving political conflicts and forming a national unity government, the near future will be bleak for this geostrategically important country
