THE Pentagon is probing reports that two Tomahawk cruise missiles aimed at Iraq had veered off course and landed in neighbouring Iran.
“We are aware of that report, we are checking if this missile, or these missiles, went off course,” said Lieutenant Colonel David Lapan, a Pentagon spokesman.
“The invading American and British airplanes violated the airspace of the Islamic Republic of Iran three times over the border city of Arvand-Kenar” today, he added.
Abadan city governor Jamal Alemi also confirmed that three people, including a security guard, were hurt when a bomb or missile fell on a petrochemical depot in Abadan yesterday.
Coalition warplanes had violated Iranian airspace five times in half an hour yesterday, Alemi said.
Late yesterday Iran lodged a diplomatic protest at the violation of its airspace by US and British planes.
