India to Install Supersonic Missiles on Anti-Submarine Jets
According to Russian and Indian sources, Russian-Indian missiles “Brahmos” to be installed on Russian-made military-transport and anti-missiles air jets, Illyushin-76 (Il-76), Tupolev-142 (TU-142) and Illyushin-38 ( Il-38 ).
At international press conference The Brahmos Aerospace Executive Director, Mr. Sivathanu Pillai informed of projects dealing with this issue. Il-76 and TU-142 are capable to carry six missiles as Il-38 does four units.
Modernization of Il-38 is the major priority of India because this jet is the main anti-vessel ammunition eauipped already with a “Sea Dragon” radar allowing allocating surface targets up to 320 km.
It is a strong conviction that a modernized Indian air jet Il-38 will be technically better than US-produced “Orion” equipped with anti-vessel missiles “Harpoon”.
Meanwhile, recent French-Indian military exercising tests possibilities of a new generation of “Mirages” in Indian sky.
