February 28, 2003 # WASHINGTON – The FBI has identified Hezbollah members in the United States who have trained in Lebanon’s terror camps – and is growing more concerned about domestic homicide bombings.
The agency is so troubled, in fact, that it recently sent agents to Israel to learn how to profile the killers.
The bureau said yesterday that it has identified two people who fit the profile – which includes a suspect’s lifestyle, social skills and finances – but has taken no action yet.
“We’re always watching,” a senior FBI official said.
The FBI revealed it has identified a number of Hezbollah operatives from the United States who went back to Lebanon – and into the terror training camps there – and have returned to the United States.
Agents have the Hezbollah members under constant surveillance.
“It’s a concern of ours. We’re investigating them pretty heavily,” the FBI official said.
For years, the feds have viewed Hezbollah as a Mideast terror outfit that has raised money inside the United States but focused its attacks on targets overseas. The group bombed the Marine barracks in Lebanon in 1983, killing 241 Americans.
