PRAGUE, Czech Republic – The upper chamber of the Czech Parliament agreed overwhelmingly Thursday to deploy chemical weapons troops to Iraq in the event of war.
The vote in the Czech Senate was 70-3, with three abstentions and five absent. The decision still needs the approval of the lower chamber of the parliament.
Under the measure, the unit could be sent to treat soldiers injured by chemical or biological weapons attacks – with or without a U.N. Security Council resolution calling for their deployment.
