I've read them all Marx, Trotsky, Lenin, Stalin, Mao, Guevara…studied their various intelligence agencies, military, economies and so on. I'm not the last word by any means but I can say this, these communist/socialist revolutionaries were good at organizing the Proletariat (the po' folks) against the Bourgeoisie (the not so po' folks) but after gaining power were terrible at feeding said Proletariat. (By the way it's not limited to the Commies, ask Hezbollah how they like running the Gaza Strip)
Unions are much the same way, good at telling people they are getting screwed, not so good at taking care of the long term employment issue. How many jobs have been lost overseas? Ever wonder why? Maybe the wages and especially the pensions got a little much? Let's take a look at a few of the businesses/organizations that are union… Post Office? Check.. 12 Billion in the hole. Airlines? Check… can you say American Airlines? Auto companies? Check.. unless you are a robot, and your job prospects are tough if you don't speak Mandarin. Where did the steel companies go? Where are those union jobs today?
"UAW membership has fallen by nearly half since 2001, when it had 701,818 members. Since reaching its peak of 1.53 million members in 1979, the union has lost 1.14 million members, or 77 percent of its membership." http://www.wsws.org/.../uawm-a01.shtml
Ok.. still don't agree? How about the UAW's beginnings?
"Communists provided many of the organizers and took control of key union locals, especially Local 600, which represented the largest Ford plants. The Communist faction controlled some of the key positions in the union, including the directorship of the Washington office, the research department, and the legal office." http://en.wikipedia….ed_Auto_Workers
At one time there was merit to unions, as industrialization took hold and people migrated to the cities there was certainly much to protest and the working man did indeed require a voice. Those days are largely gone, at least here in the U.S. but so are the jobs, those have disappeared in lock step with the union membership. Odd how that happens.
Communism and Socialism are the antithesis of a free market society, much like a virus it will live within the host but will make the host ill. Medicare and Medicaid along with Social Security are prime examples of programs that will either bankrupt themselves or the country along with it… or both. Ever thought about what might happen if the Feds say "sorry, out of money, have a nice day"? How many millions will find themselves destitute? Nobody thought much about that, oh nooooo.. .the government has plenty of money and if they run short they'll simply print more. How shortsighted.
At least the Communists ran on a 5 year plan, we can't even pass a budget at all… but that's gone too now. http://en.wikipedia….he_Soviet_Union
So what's going to change all of this? In my opinion, nothing, we are too fragmented, too radical and have already proven that our representatives don't have the wherewithal to behave rationally, only to make everyone happy so they can be elected again. Nothing will happen but remember this very sobering quote: "The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants." ol Thomas Jefferson was a pretty smart guy, maybe he's on to something there.
My politics are probably right of center, I don't like big government hence I hate Obamacare. If you don't agree then feel free to point out one single government agency or branch that operates under budget. Now I'll happily pay for our vaunted military all day long lest I have to learn Arabic, Persian or Mandarin but even the military is always way over budget….with or without an active war. Simply said, let the free market system work the issue, get government out…all the way out. Provide me roads, security..the basics and let us take care of the rest. Regardless, I'm not some radical nutcase I'm just not real happy with either party right now and haven't been for some time.
So, does it surprise you that the Chinese basically own GM? I mean, you gotta applaud their Capitalist approach! History always repeats itself, politicians usually forget that little point but it's ironic that the communists own the BowTie. Next thing you know they'll own baseball and apple pie!
While there are debates about whether or not Lenin actually said this, I find it poignant to the discussion:
"We will hang the Capitalists with the ropes they sold us".
I can understand a company building a production plant to serve members of a country that does not have the same bureaucratic mandates for the product that we have. I cannot tolerate this GM action which goes way beyond that reason. That totally dismantled my consideration of any GM products in my upcoming replacements. OnStar can be installed in almost anything for $300.oo,https://www.onstar.com/web/fmv/planspricing?seo=msn and the uber-kool HUD I was interested in is absolutely non-essential.
I'm headed over to http://www.madeinusa.org/ I'm looking for whatever is actually, totally, Made In The U.S.A. !
(P.S.) Man, that was an exercise in futility. The closest I could come to anything actually made in the USA with all major components made in the U.S.A. is 'Read The Sticker' !
