SKY NEWS – A woman who works for British Intelligence has been charged with breaching the Official Secrets Act. Police have named the suspect as 29-year-old Catherine Gunn from Cheltenham in Gloucestershire.
Gunn was arrested on March 5 this year and has now been charged under Section 1(1) of the 1989 Act at Cheltenham police station, a police spokeswoman said.
Section 1 relates to the unauthorised disclosure of security and intelligence information.
A spokesman for the Government Communication Headquarters (GCHQ) – the security services’ main monitoring centre in Cheltenham – confirmed that Ms Gunn had been an employee but was dismissed in June.
It was reported at the time of Ms Gunn’s arrest in March that a top secret memo from the US National Security Agency (NSA) had been leaked to The Observer newspaper.
Gunn has been granted bail and will appear at Bow Street Magistrates Court on November 27.
